we want to welcome you tohbs, not just to the school, but to a place that youwill soon call home. so welcome home. if you think about oureducational experience, one word for it isthat its intense. the case method is nota sport for spectators. it's a sport that demands ofyou active, direct engagement. this is a place thatdemands you to speak.
but speaking is just onepart of the equation. listening is probably thesecond and even more important part of the equation. even when you believe thatyou have the point that is going to change aclass, listen to others, because they might actuallyhave a point of view that will change yours. you are inevitablyin a place where the power that you willexercise in your life
will increase overtime, so think hard about how tosteady yourself, how to steel yourself,how to make sure that your moralcompass is secure, so that you don't lose your way. knowing is simply masteringa body of knowledge and being able to applythat body of knowledge with judgment inany given situation. because that'swhat businesses is.
that's what real life is. when people experienceyou as a leader, it's because they experienceyou as having better judgment. consider how you can use yourvoice and act on your passion right here on campus tomake a positive impact. we also urge you to operate froma place of empathy, curiosity, and humility. i live in the on-campusdorms, and my one neighbor is from korea, and theother one's from singapore.
